Merzouga Standard Fixed Bivouac Camel Ride + Dinner & Show + Sandboarding

Merzouga sits at the edge of Erg Chebbi, the most famous dune sea in Morocco, where the Sahara rises in waves of orange sand at the country's southeastern frontier. A night at a fixed bivouac here is one of those experiences travelers carry home for life, quiet, vast, and lit by more stars than most cities ever show. This standard bivouac is built for guests who want the real desert atmosphere without the polish of a luxury camp, hosting up to 5 people in a simple, well-located base near the dunes.

The experience begins in Merzouga itself. After meeting at the agreed point, you'll trade tarmac for sand and ride a camel toward the camp, arriving as the light softens and the dunes begin to glow. You'll have time to settle into your tent before dinner, a traditional Moroccan meal served at the camp under open skies. After the plates are cleared, the evening turns into music: drumming, singing, and a short live show led by your hosts that captures the spirit of nomadic Sahara culture. When you're ready, you'll fall asleep in a fixed bivouac tent and wake to the silence of the dunes at dawn.

Please note that this experience does not include hotel or airport pickup. Guests make their way to the agreed meeting point in Merzouga independently, where the camel handlers will be waiting to begin the ride to camp. If you need a transfer from Marrakech, Fes, or another Moroccan city to reach Merzouga, our team can recommend a separate driver service on request.

Free sandboarding is available throughout your stay, weather and equipment permitting, a fun excuse to climb a nearby dune for the photo and feel the sand rush past on the way down. Bathroom facilities at this bivouac are shared, in keeping with the standard desert camp format and the realities of hosting in the open Sahara. Pack a small overnight bag, bring warm layers (desert nights cool quickly outside summer), and you'll have everything you need for the night.
